Get ready to migrate with some helpful information!Get ready to migrate with some helpful information!

New software of any kind can be confusing, and you might already be left scratching your head, wondering what the difference is between Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Home. You want to know if you should upgrade at all, and if you’ve decided to upgrade, you want to know, in simple terms, which version you should pick. And then you want to know how you can save money doing all this. CNS has some recommendations...and some advice!

First, CNS has a pretty strong stance: we think you should upgrade. And don't go with Windows 7 Home for your business. I know that you are going to ask "Why not?" and the answer is, simply put, that we prefer the benefits of at least the professional version, instead of the home version, of any Microsoft application or operating system. We also recommend that everyone look to the Microsoft Incentives website (www.microsoftincentives.com) for discounts when purchasing products.

Below are some of the main points I want to share with customers who are considering making the decision to migrate to Windows 7, along with a summary of the Professional and Enterprise versions and a current promotion for Windows 7 that can help you save.

Why should you care?

Here are some Windows 7 features that pack powerful benefits.

  • Access information from almost anywhere with DirectAccess, which allows access to your company’s corporate network and intranet sites without using virtual private network (VPN) software.
  • Speed up access to information with BranchCache, which helps you access remote data faster and easier than ever.
  • Improve PC stability with AppLocker, which allows IT departments to specify which applications (and versions) are allowed to be installed.
  • Help protect users, infrastructure, and data with BitLocker™ To Go, which allows IT departments to automatically encrypt any USB drive attached to a Windows 7-based machine.
  • Ease transition to Windows 7 with Windows XP Mode, which allows you to run Windows XP virtually under Windows 7 and minimize your application compatibility concerns.
  • Help remove barriers to information with Federated Search, which allows you to search and view content from local, network, and Internet repositories—all within a single view.

What's the difference?

We highly recommend either the Professional or Enterprise editions of Windows 7. Windows 7 Professional is designed for small businesses, and is available as an upgrade license through Volume Licensing. It's the successor to Windows Vista Business.

Windows 7 Enterprise is for medium-sized or larger businesses. It's also available with Software Assurance for Windows.

Take advantage of special offers

For a limited time (until April 30) you can get Windows 7 Professional at a discount, up to 15% off the regular price in Open License and Select. If you include Software Assurance you can upgrade to Windows 7 Enterprise and get exclusive rights to purchase the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack.
