Tech Tip: Turning off AutoPlay in Windows 7

Given the recent vulnerability announced by Microsoft, here are instructions on how to turn off AutoPlay for portable devices on your computer. These instructions are for Windows 7, but should also apply to Vista.

  1. Go to the Start menu and right-click on Computer.
  2. Select Properties.

    3. Right click on Computer and select Properties.

  3. Click on AutoPlay.

    4. Select AutoPlay

  4. Deselect the "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" option.

    5. Deselect AutoPlay option for all media and devices

  5. Click Save.
